Accounts

An account is the top-level container in Lyra. It carries a single subscription, holds one or more schools, and is governed by a set of account owners.

Everything in Lyra hangs off a three-level structure:

  • Account — the top-level container and the thing that gets billed. It holds one or more schools and carries a single subscription that covers all of them.
  • School — sits inside the account. School-owned entities are shared across its libraries: the patron roster, homerooms, the holiday calendar, its staff, and its branding.
  • Library — sits inside a school. A library owns the day-to-day operational concerns: its catalog, policies, notice settings, OPAC, and circulation.

An account is governed by its account owners. Ownership grants account-level governance and nothing more: an owner manages billing and the subscription, adds and removes schools, and manages everyone’s access from the account’s screen: Users page: who owns the account, who has a role at each school, and who manages each library.

Ownership itself never grants circulation, roster, or catalog access on its own — an owner doesn’t need to work in any school. Only an account owner who is also listed as a member of school staff are able to run the desk, edit the roster, and manage a catalog. An account owner need not be a school admin, and a school admin need not be an account owner. Account ownership is covered in full on Account governance; the school-side capability matrix is on Staff users.

After you sign in you land where you last worked: a library, a school, or, for an account owner, the account. If that place is gone or you’ve lost access to it, account owners land on the account’s screen: Overview, which lists every school and its libraries, and everyone else lands in the first library they work in.

The staff app organizes each level into its own shell: an Account shell, a School shell, and a Library shell. The level switcher at the top of the sidebar shows which one you’re in and moves you between them. Open it and the account, your school, and its libraries are listed one inside the next, each with a line saying what you’ll find there. The one you’re in is checked. Only account owners can open the account; for everyone else it heads the menu with its owners named, so you know who handles billing.

If you work in more than one school, the level switcher also lists those schools beside the others. Select a school to see its libraries, then select the library, or the school itself, to go there.

Billing lives at the account, not the school. One account has one subscription, and its patron-count tier is measured across every school in the account combined. Adding a school to an existing account puts it under that same subscription rather than starting a new one. See Billing and the subscription.

  • Schools — what a single school owns and shares, and the school staff roles.
  • Libraries — what a single library owns and shares.
  • Staff users — the three school roles and the library-manager grant.
  • Account governance — account owners, the subscription and patron-count tiers, and the schools in the account.
