Library settings

Each library in a school carries its own settings. This page is the field-by-field reference for the screen: Library Settings page. It holds the library’s profile, notices, student notices, and deletion; circulation rules and the OPAC each have their own page.

For the school-level fields that apply across libraries, see School settings.

The library’s name, shown wherever the library is referenced. It’s on the card: Profile card; renaming a library is an admin action.

The library’s patron-facing catalog — its web address, visit mode, student sign-in, sharing, and lists — is configured on its own page, Library level navigation path: Configure then OPAC, not here. See OPAC for the whole model, and Setting up the OPAC for the settings themselves.

Loan periods, hold limits, renewal rules, and the desk rules (due-date ceiling, overdue blocks) live on their own page, Library level navigation path: Configure then Policies, not here. See Circulation policy settings for the field reference, Managing policies for editing them, and Policies for how library defaults combine with faculty, grade-level, and item policies.

Your school’s own label sheets are set up on School settings, not here, because every library in the school shares them. A sheet that prints a little off is corrected there too, on the sheet itself; see Adjusting for your printer.

The card: Automated Notices card on Library Settings shows the status of each notice category; button: Edit opens the settings dialog. The full notice model (when each category fires, and how repeats work) is on Notices; this section is the field reference.

Check times are in the school’s time zone. The notice schedule runs per library, two libraries in the same school can have different cadences and different check times.

The card also shows an Unreachable patrons count: patrons with no email address that the current settings would actually send to, with a link to view them. What counts as reachable depends on the Student Notices toggles below; see Where notices go.

The card: Student Notices card controls which of a student’s associated contacts get copies of the student’s notices. A student’s own email is always used; these toggles add recipients on top.

SettingDefaultWhat it does
setting: Guardian emailsOffAlso notify the student’s guardian emails.
setting: Primary teachersOffAlso notify the primary teacher of the student’s homeroom.
setting: Assistant teachersOffAlso notify the assistant teachers of the student’s homeroom.

Teacher copies arrive as one digest per teacher, covering all of that teacher’s students. None of these toggles apply to faculty patrons; their notices go only to their own email. The full routing model is on Notices → Where notices go.

At the bottom of a library’s settings is a card: Delete Library card where a school admin can delete that library, permanently, along with its catalog and circulation data. The confirmation dialog reminds you to export the catalog and resolve active loans first.

  • School settings covers what’s above the library level.
  • Managing policies covers editing the circulation rules.
  • OPAC covers the patron-facing catalog.
  • Notices covers the full notice model that the notice settings drive.
